Former Canadian Football League (CFL) player Kwame Osei knows as well as anyone that it takes drive and determination to achieve success, and he’s seen for himself that resilience can be applied in all walks of life – from the football field to the classroom to the boardroom.

On being an inspiration

“My goal in life is to really be the person that I needed when I was younger. And there are so many people out in this world that are struggling with their identity. There are so many people out in this world that don't believe in themselves, you know, and don't even know what they're capable of. And at some point, they will believe in themselves.”

On resilience

“Resilience can be a humbling experience. Being put in situations where you have to be resilient really tells you who you are. Character is built through adversity and I think resilience is like Life Resistance Training.

We all go through something that will challenge us. We all will go through some type of obstacle that would make us question whether or not we were built to get to the next level.

But at the end of the day, like when you go to the gym and you have that resistance that you have to fight through...but you do get stronger.”

On going ‘all in’

“To me, going ‘all in’ - it means everything. For me to be here living and breathing right now is a miracle. The reality [of] the way I grew up and what I saw around me... that was not something that I aspired to become.

I’ve been through a lot...and for me to be right here is a living, breathing miracle – up against every statistic that was placed on me. So, everything I do right now is like a cherry on top so I’m not afraid to fail. I’m not afraid to try something new.

I also know there’s people that are looking up to me, so for me to be “all in”—it’s understanding the power that I have within my day-to-day interaction, that I have to truly believe in myself and in my vision because it starts with me.”
