How Prophix is celebrating Pride
Pride is an annual celebration promoting the visibility, acceptance, and rights of the Queer community while honoring their history in pursuit of equality.
Pride month is a reminder of the challenges and discrimination that the Queer community has faced and continues to face. It’s a time to recognize and celebrate the resilience, accomplishments, and ongoing efforts toward achieving equity and justice.
And it’s part of Prophix’s culture to create time and space for conversations that promote a sense of belonging and inclusivity.
What does a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture mean at Prophix?
We’re a global organization with Phixers around the world. We invite our diverse global communities to participate in Open Forums, education sessions, and events that encourage connectedness and authenticity in the workplace.
Here are a few of the steps Prophix is taking to ensure a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for Phixers and their communities.
Parental Leave Policy
Our new Parental Leave Policy ensures that all parents, regardless of gender or family structure, have equal access to paid time off and job protection to care for their children. The policy acknowledges and supports diverse family dynamics and promotes work-life balance for the 70% of our Canada-based employees. We are actively working on developing similar plans for our employees in the United States, United Kingdom, Belgium, and the 12 other countries where Phixers live and work.
DEI Survey
The DEI survey enables us to gather anonymous, voluntary demographic data and insights about our employees. This information allows us to better serve and tailor our programs to suit the needs and wants of our employees and their communities. Additionally, this data serves to identify gaps in our hiring and promotion practices so we can take action to eliminate bias.
Personal Growth Time Off (PGTO)
In addition to our vacation and other time off policies, Phixers have the opportunity to apply for one-week of paid time off to accomplish a personal growth project. This includes work related to diversity, equity, and inclusion research; volunteering; policy development; or general learning.

“Pride is such an important time for the Queer community, it allows us to remember those before us who fought so hard, to put a spotlight on key issues being faced that need to be addressed and to celebrate our amazing community! For me personally, Pride is also an important time for family fun, I have 2 daughters who have both been attending Pride events since they were very young and absolutely love it.
I feel incredibly privileged to be part of an organization that sees the value in truly celebrating Pride, in a really big way! The pride events organized have been shaped to include all the core focuses of Pride and allow the whole company (and their families) to get involved.
Supporting the Queer community is not just for Pride month though, and so it is great to be part of an organization focused on ensuring they provide a truly inclusive and safe workspace all year round.”
How is Prophix celebrating Pride month
To celebrate and engage with our global community, members of our DEI committee planned several events for Phixers to learn, grow, and celebrate, including:
- An internal panel discussion with Phixers who shared their experience as members of the Queer community in the workplace – a unique opportunity for employes to attend, learn, and listen.
- A virtual workshop hosted by Toronto PFLAG, an organization that provides support, education, and advocacy for the Queer community and their families, friends, and allies, hosted a virtual session for Phixers to learn about how to be a better ally.
- Saturday morning Drag Queen Story Hour with Cherrie Ontop (Matthew Cavan) reading children’s stories from her home in Belfast, Ireland.
- Virtual Pride-themed trivia for Phixers to test their knowledge of Queer history and iconic moments.
- Cupcake decorating to celebrate the uniqueness of each individual and reflect on what makes them unique.
And lastly, Prophix is making a donation to Rainbow Railroad, a global non-profit that helps LGBTQI+ people facing persecution based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics. As a result of Rainbow Railroad, more Queer individuals will be able to access lives free of persecution.
