At Prophix, we don’t believe in little ideas. We aim to create a lasting impact on the global community, through meaningful programs and projects.
Driven by Prophix employees, our approach to Social Responsibility started as a grassroots movement to now supporting worthy causes around the globe. It’s not just what we do, it’s who we are!
Our CSR Story
Since 1987, our CEO Paul Barber has championed the spirit of giving by organizing a large yearly donation of toys and turkeys to the Salvation Army. This tradition has continued nearly 30 years later with support from our CSR committee.
In 2015, Phil Gravel, our Vice President of Professional & Client Services, decided to pursue his passion for making the world a better place by submitting a proposal for a formal Corporate Social Responsibility charter and committee.
There were two central tenets in Phil’s proposal that continue to inform our CSR efforts today:
- Employees should lead the CSR effort and champion the causes they believe in
- All initiatives should have the buy-in and support of our leadership team
In its first year, the CSR committee donated over $100,000 to support charitable projects in Kenya and India, as well as improve the lives of those who suffer from homelessness, women hurt by violence, and children afflicted with cancer and poverty in local communities.
Today, our committee has 15 members who are responsible for promoting, organizing, and supporting our ongoing CSR initiatives.
Our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility extends to our planet. In 2019, we launched a comprehensive recycling, waste, and compost program to reduce the environmental impact of our offices.
Each quarter that we hit our sales targets, we donate $25,000 to a non-profit organization that’s making a difference in the world. Employees can nominate causes they are passionate about and the final project is chosen by popular vote.
This allows us to support a wide variety of charitable initiatives that matter deeply to our employees.
Creating lasting change takes a community – and that’s why our employees are the driving force behind our philanthropy. We aim to support the initiatives that matter most to our staff by giving them opportunities to get involved and have their voice heard.
We reward employees for living our philosophy through:
- Earned Time-off
- Volunteer Days
- Corporate Events
- Donation Matching
- Shared Passions
Our Commitment in Action
2020 Q4 - Global Friends Foundation
Global Friends Foundation works with orphaned and vulnerable youth in Uganda and Tanzania and their Girls Going Forward program focuses on the young girls in these communities. Majority of girls in these areas do not live past age 34 due to violence, hunger, disease, and other effects of poverty. Girls Going Forward helps remove barriers of extreme poverty by offering education and vocational opportunities and Prophix’s support supplied 57 young girls full scholarships to the program and microloans to start their own small business in their community.
2020 Q3 - Halton Food for Thought
Halton Food for Thought partners with the Boards of Education and the community to operate Student Nutrition Programs in our schools. These volunteer led meal and snack programs provided over 74,000 Halton students access to healthy food at school. Their free space is now used by numerous organizations assisting with fundraisers, board meetings and outreach events helping Peel Regional non-profits thrive!
2020 Q1 - Nanny Angel Network
The Nanny Angel Network has been providing free, specialized childcare to families living with cancer since 2009. They are a registered charity and one of the only organizations of its kind in Canada.
The Nanny Angel Network has three main goals: provide specialized, child life-informed childcare for mothers with cancer to reduce existing social support burnout, build resiliency in children by teaching life-long coping skills, and provide a sense of normalcy for children during a tumultuous time in their lives.
The Nanny Angel Network supports families at any point during their cancer journey – from the time of diagnosis, through their treatment, and during palliative care. They continue to support families who need help during the bereavement period for up to a year.
Prophix is supporting The Nanny Angel Network’s COVID-19 Free Meal Program in the Greater Toronto area. In the spring of 2020, many mothers with cancer were having difficulty preparing meals and grocery shopping because of their immuno-compromised status. To respond, The Nanny Angel Network started a program to provide free lunches and dinners every day to families in need. With Prophix’s support, their Free Meal Program is currently supporting 36 families (137 individuals), including 75 children.
